Top 10: My January Favourites 2019

January, I bid you adieu, you were long and dark and cold as always. However, I won’t bang on about how slow the past month was and how glad I am it’s over. I must admit, January wasn’t all that bad. For one thing, we all got over our terrible flu from Christmas and postponing New Year meant we got to eke out the festivities slightly longer.

But the current dilemma between the rowing machine vs left over chocolates aside, January was also a month I discovered some new favourites for my makeup bag, wardrobe and my cupboard (because who doesn’t love a food or beverage related favourite?).

So, without waffling on too much, here’s a round-up of all the things that have been making me a happy little head this January.

No7 Lip Care

I, like many others at this time of year, spend most of their spare time searching the high seas for a lip balm to quell their drier-than-the-Sahara lips. Until recently, I never really found a product thatactually stopped them from becoming parched, shrivelled lines on my face. Until No7 Protect & Perfect Lip Care came along. I tried this out one day at work and when I got home, I realised how plump and nourished my lips looked. Not only that, there wasn’t a single sign of dry skin! It also seems to have a slight plumping effect, making it perfect for priming before lipstick application. So naturally, I’ve been a little obsessed.

L’Oreal Elvive Purple Shampoo & Conditioner

My new go-to toner. After using the Colorista purple shampoo and having heard amazing things about the Professional Silver shampoo, I wanted to give something in the middle a go. I’ve seen a huge difference in the highlights in my hair and love how the packaging gives tips on how long to leave the product on depending on what type of blonde you are. On top of that, it didn’t leave my hair feeling knotty or straw like afterwards. However, one thing I will mention is to use gloves if you’re heading out straight after washing and drying. Well, unless you’re into the whole purple hands look.

Vaseline Intensive Care Cocoa Radiant Moisturiser

Hydrating, fast absorbing, and it smells like Baileys. I couldn’t not love this product. Finding an all over body moisturiser that’s hydrating enough but doesn’t make pulling your skinny jeans on seem like the mission of the century can be a pretty futile task. However, I’ve found this petroleum jelly enriched moisturiser does the trick. If you’re not a fan of the Baileys-like scent, I’d recommend checking out the rest of the range because there is bound to be something for everyone.

Carvela by Kurt Geiger Khaki Bag

This was a very well-chosen Christmas gift from my Grandparents. I’m lucky in that both my Grandma and my Mother know my style pretty well, so it was no surprise that my Grandma picked this bag out totally based on her own opinions. I’m a huge fan of the Carvela range anyway and already own a smaller cross body bag (featured in this post). This new addition is the perfect size for everyday outings and can be worn cross body or held by the handles. Plus, the colour is absolutely divine!

Trousers

Just in general. At the end of last year, I really hopped on the trousers bandwagon after I purchased this pair from H&M. With the intention of having them for interviews (something I told myself to justify buying them) I’ve since become addicted. I just love how they switch up an outfit and are something different to the usual black or blue denim. I actually now have more trousers than I do jeans.

Camel Coat

Much like finding the perfect leather jacket, it takes great time and patience to hunt down a faultless camel coat. And I was on the lookout for a while until I found this one from River Island. The slightly oversized silhouette is softened by the absence of a collar and lapel and the single press stud in the centre makes the coat drape seamlessly over any outfit. I would genuinely sleep in this coat if I could and it will most definitely be a staple of mine for many a year to come.

Colette Star Earrings

By far my most worn (and best bargain!) of 2018. This is a bit of a cheat as I nabbed these adorable little gold star studs around Black Friday time for just £1. But I’ve been in love with them since and couldn’t not include them. They’re the perfect, subtle everyday stud and go so well if you like to mix your metals.

Asda Extra Special Winter Blend Ground Coffee

I’m a coffee addict through and through. Not really for the caffeine, but for the taste and the whole enjoyment of sitting down and with a warm mug. Thanks to my parent’s love of the humble beverage, I now have to take at least ten minutes in the morning to enjoy a good, strong cafetiere coffee. I’ve been addicted to Asda’s Extra Special Winter Blend with its notes of rich dark chocolate and aromatic festive spices. It’s been a little taste of Christmas to perk up a dull January.

Polaroid Wire

Yet another Christmas gift and one I have wanted for a long time. I’ve always meant to get some string to display my ever-growing polaroid collection but thankfully my boyfriend got there first with some LED wire lights. Fairy light + Polaroids = one very happy Hannah.

Carolina Herrera Good Girl

Last but by no means least. I first smelt this fragrance about two and a half years ago on a ferry over to France. Drawn in by the beautiful bottles and the duty-free prices, I was torn between Carolina Herrera’s sweet but deep Good Girl and Dior’s fresh and light Blooming Bouquet. After much deliberation and a little bit of panic buying, I decided to go for the Dior. I fully don’t regret that decision (I got my second bottle for Christmas and it’s my favourite everyday fragrance) but I have been lusting after the Good Girl perfume ever since. And now, I finally have it!

I’d love to know what your favourites for January were and any recommendations I should try out this month.

Until next time,

Hannah x
