Paris - Montmartre
I am ashamed to admit this, but I did very little research on Paris before I visited. So when my parents suggested we visit Montmartre, I recognised the name but knew very little about the place. Which was surprising considering the hill's reputation for art, culture and nightlife. You would have thought it would have been top on my list of places to visit. But I can honestly hand on heart say that it was one of my favourite places to explore. We started off at the bottom of the hill and worked our way up to the magnificent white domes of the Sacre-Coeur, which was a welcome sight after trekking through the streets in the 35 degree heat.
We then made our way through the streets back down the hill. Passing street artists in the Place du Tertre and adorable Parisian bakeries before making our way to see the red windmill of the Moulin Rouge.

People were playing in the fountains to cool off.

And the architecture of the buildings were something else.
